Always Be Hustling— Why Selling has Become as Certain as Death and Taxes

Nothing is certain but Death and Taxes
Used to be true. It used to be that you were born you lived and you died. Doing so permitted you to have a progressively better lifes as the global tide rose and all boats rose with it.
This is no longer true
Globalism is stagnant for the West which has bred the conditions of populism we are seeing now. The States, Brexit and a host of nationalist parties across Europe are providing evidence that a more insular belief system — championing ‘Patriotism’, ‘National Identity’ and taking back what is rightfully yours.
The problem is simple.
What worked for our grandparents and even more so for our parents isn’t working for us.
In days gone by you could fall into a corporate job where you knew your standard of living would progressively increase through life. You knew that the job you had could buy increasingly better things and you could support your 2.4 kids and have the occasional vacation.
Those became certain — and we depended on
Life was good. Inheritance of a good life was assured. Sure school helped, but it was not a prerequisite for getting in. Education may have quickened your ascent but a failure to have papered credentials didn't stop you providing for your family of being able to afford a home.
Not like it does now
You can get a degree and struggle to repay your loans but find a job relatively easily or you can forego further education and struggle to get a job.
Those are life new certainties
Now to survive you need to be able to sell. I would argue that the ability to sell is the single most valuable skill anyone in the world can possess.
I don’t just mean stuff
Physical goods, advertisements online or programmes to get rich
I mean selling yourself
People have become physuical commodities and life is about cultivating your personal brand in order for you to provide opportunities for yourself. You must relentlessly project a public face of competency while displaying your expert credentials as widely as possible.
As opportunities wither and die the only options if the pursuit of serendipitous fortune, and this is most easily attained through the establishment of a profile online.
You must religiously practice ways in which you can sell yourself
That means creating a public persona which accentuates your capabilities at all times. You must never let your guard down for fear or destroying your leverage. Your network is the currency of the modern elite.
Opportunities don't find you so much as they consume the content you have laid as traps
And once you have a bite you must pounce. Selling starts with considering everything available about you on the internet that other people can find. Every post, every picture, every footprint is an article that you can be judged on. That might not be fair but its true.
We are the entrepreneurial generation
To succeed we can’t rely on monolithic corporate entities to care for our needs. Jobs are disappearing, standards of living are dropping, the only thing we can rely on is ourselves.
So you must learn to sell
You need to develop the ability to sell your ideas. To seel yourself. To seel the benefits you can rbing to any project. You need to offer ideas and solutions when you’re not asked and deliver value where its unexpected.
Rach out to people you think will ignore you. Offer them such compelling information that they can’t look away. Make yourself so valuable that they can’t live without you.
