Do you Enjoy Your Time and Money Being Stolen?
I don’t know about you but I like keeping as much of my time and money as possible in order for me to be the one who decides how I want to spend it. I place a very high value on both and am willing to fight to defend them when individuals or companies try to steal any of either.
It’s the thing that frustrates me more than anything. The modern world is a drain, ciphering off our resources more easily than at any other time in human history. We are constantly accosted by advertisements, click bait articles and all manner of attention and financial sapping products designed to pull us in and never let us go. We let companies rob us by failing to take actions where we could achieve significant savings.
Why do you pay $120/£90 for Cable TV when your friend pays $30/£22? Is it because you are not aware of the disparity or because you can’t be bothered with haggling on price? This question is what inspired my crusade to solve this real world problem, the unfortunate soul paying more was my Grandmother while my Dad was paying less than a 1/3 of the price for the same service. I didn’t think it was fair that some people were exploited due to a lack of knowledge on the savings they could make. I thought I could make a difference.
I set out to answer the questions of how badly some people were being exploited while others were not. It was a natural assumption with the above being true for satellite/cable subscription that it would be equally applicable to every other recurring monthly/yearly expense.
What I discovered is that for what is true for Satellite/Cable TV is also true for the following:
- Mobile phone contracts
- Home internet service and telephone
- Streaming services
- Electric and gas bills
- Home insurance
- Car insurance
When all of the above services were factored in I was able to save my Grandmother £1272 for a single year.
- Satellite TV — saved £68 per month — £816 per year
- Home internet service and telephone — saved £6 per month — £72 per year
- Electric and gas bills — saved £8 per month — £96 per year
- Home insurance — saved £6 per month — £72 per year
- Car insurance — saved £18 per month — £216 per year
Upon that I sat out upon researching the rest of the market in order to provide proof of concept and application to the wider public at large and what I uncovered was startling. 3/5 people never haggle or negotiate on price. They accept the cost offered to them the first time without any negotiation. They have done so for years and have not received any sort of loyalty bonus or saving for their devotion.
On average, from the 200 individuals who supplied full details to the survey, individuals would have saved £600 per year.
