What is your Mission in Life?

What is the purpose for which you get up every morning and with what goal in mind are you constantly striving for? It’s not a trick question, I pose it more in recognition of the difficulty I’ve had personally in finding motivation at times in my life while lacking a higher purpose.

Purpose is derived, in my opinion, from identifying something you are committed to that is about more than yourself. It’s about devoting yourself to an ideal which allows you to focus on achieving something with meaning to a vast array of people. Purpose if about selflessness and collective benefit, whether it is for your family, your staff or humanity as a whole.

Purpose has grown to define my thinking in relation to what it means to lead. It was with the above thoughts in mind that I have progressed my own startup idea which unequivocally hopes to enrich the lives of everyone we touch; we need to enable our personnel by enriching them personally. We don’t see employment as a singularly beneficial exploitation, we seek to establish a partnership for mutual and collective benefit. When our partners grow we grow and both profit from the success we have both achieved.

Below is our mission. I realise it is ideologically simplistic but purposefully so. I’m committed to building a new future where the employed aren't abused. What benefit is there to anyone if people hate their jobs, their productivity suffers leading to a poorer quality output. My passion is to make people love what they do and in turn make the customer love what we do. I've omitted what it is Carson actually does because I wanted to focus on the overriding mission. Love your staff, enrich their lives, educate them and watch them grow. In return, they will significantly contribute to your business flourishing.

The myCarson Mission

Value: We value our employees so much so they are considered partners in everything we do. We don’t have employees, we have partnerships with individuals which we hope are mutual beneficial over a prolonged period of time.

Remuneration: We have committed to pay all our staff at least 20% above the average UK wage, even for positions which would not historically be considered ‘skilled’, because we are passionate about our people and believe it is the right thing to do.

Education: We educate our staff, literally every day. We have eradicated continued professional development and replaced it with personal development. That’s not talking about education related to their job, instead, we allow each individual to be the masters of their own destiny. For one hour every single day we encourage, and pay, our staff to learn whatever it is they want to improve on. Spanish, computer programming or financial management, whatever it is they want to learn we provide the resources to allow them to do so.

We believe that recognises the importance of our people at the heart of our business. We hope that it, in turn, ensures wow customer service and that our partners love the jobs they do. We don’t just seek to be a job, we seek to establish a culture where your life is enriched by your work. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and enabling them to progress in their lives enriches our entire business.

We actively seek to bestow the skills upon our staff so that they could leave hoping that job satisfaction, work life balance, opportunities, education and happiness they makes them want to stay. Looking to the future we hope that the education leads to entrepreneurs who branch off on their own and whom we can form mutually beneficial strategic partnerships with because they still want to be involved with us.

Commitment: We actively aim to ensure our partners actually want to be here. We practice ‘the offer’ where if after completion of training you do not want to continue we’ll pay you a small bonus and your first months pay as thanks for your honesty that the job isn’t for you. Furthermore, we make the same offer at bi-yearly intervals to all our staff in order to give people the chance to move on and utilise the skills they have learned elsewhere.

Training: We fanatically train our staff in the hope that customer satisfaction will come as a by-product. The best companies hire for attitude and train for skill. Every day a computer randomly generates the names of two to four partners in a specific office to be tested in one element of their work. They then take a quick test on a specific task, see whether they pass, and if they don’t they get retrained for that job before they can do it again. This is all done autonomously over the platform with a video for retraining immediately available if failed. This ensures everyone is comfortable in undertaking the tasks they are required and they never feel isolated.

Balance: Ultimately we recognise the importance of our partners and want to enrich their lives during the time they are with us. If anyone ever came to us desperate we would do everything in our power to ensure if they ever leave they are in a far more comfortable place. Work is only one facet of your life; we hope to provide you with the opportunity to develop so you can enjoy and excel within every part of your life.

Our core values are also incredibly important to us. We hope that we personify these in every part of our lives not just while we work:

  1. Deliver WOW Through Service
  2. Embrace and Drive Change
  3. Create Fun and A Little Weirdness
  4. Be Adventurous, Creative, and Open-Minded
  5. Pursue Growth and Learning
  6. Build Open and Honest Relationships With Communication
  7. Build a Positive Team and Family Spirit
  8. Do More With Less
  9. Be Passionate and Determined
  10. Be Humble

At Carson we deeply care about our people and in turn they care passionately about our customers.
