Have you picked your punk?
A better question, WTF is it?
Punk is your passion, its why you’re alive. If you accept what you’re told you don’t have one and this isn’t for you. Stop reading. Seriously, we have no time or interest in anything you stand for, we are recruiting people who are willing to be counted. Nodding heads are an aberration, we seek dissenting voices that will be heard. Scared of upsetting people? Grow a pair! This is the future. If you haven’t upset anyone you haven’t stood for something that matters. Revolution hinges on the strength of those willing to say and do what’s necessary. Back away from a fight? Go cower at home! We need those who refuse to back down. Man or Mouse, Woman or grouse, if you are brave, bold, brash, uncompromising and defiant, we need you.
Your punk is who you are when nobody is watching. It’s what and how you feel inside. Do you see the things that are wrong with the world that other people ignore? To pick your punk, you need to act. That means picking a side. Action or paralysis. Seeing it is one thing, a refusal to act is as bad as ignorance. We seek the 1% of you who don’t give a f**k about the consequences if it means changing the rules. The world is broken, you’re either with us or against us in pursuit of change.
Willing to bend or break the rules in pursuit of what’s right? We are looking to establish a new world order — mass benefit. Things that exist only because they are the way they have always been must be burnt to the ground and shown no mercy. Monopolised markets defended by dinosaurs and fat cat capitalists must be brutalised in the most inhumane ways. Economic dictators must be overthrown. The pursuit of freedom must involve the reclamation of power and redistribution of wealth. Burn the bridges that lead to exploitation, destroy the institutions that stand against us. Punk means standing together with those who are making a difference. That’s us, and we need you.
I subscribe to the belief that the only definition of freedom that matters is whether you are a slave or not. Materially affected by the choice or actions or someone or something else? You’re a slave to that person or thing. At the most fundamental level that is your money. A central bank or government control the value of it? You’re a slave to their needs, wants and desires.
Picking your punk means aligning yourself against those whose incentivises are opposed to your own. We need fighters, dissenters, objectors, complainers anarchists, usurpers and revolutionaries. Alone we are weak together we can change the work. Picking your punk means finding your tribe. A community of like-minded misfits whose view of the world and the things which it is made of match. An understanding of the fact that everything in the world was created by people and for that reason, it can be changed by people as well.
Picking your punk is a statement of intent. It says no more and demands a reckoning. Rules and expectation stand as the things which govern the world we exist within. They dictate the things we are allowed to do and prescribe the parameters within which we must operate. We need those who see that world as fluid rather than fixed — those willing to force the change.
At Nexves we are rejecting the status quo. We are creating the future of money and the internet by rejecting the rules and expectations banks have insisted we abide by for nearly 300 years. While they make billions they reward us with £15 a year for every £1,000 we deposit. Is there a more bullshit equation in the world? For every £1 you place in their care, they are able to take 10 times that risk to make money. We let them leverage our money as power and influence over us while receiving none of the benefits of the gamble. In fact, they act against our interests and provide us zero value in return. F**k that. If you don’t think that is fair do something about it.
Picking your punk means understanding how you are being taken for a ride. Where there weren’t alternatives, we are breaking down barriers, removing obstacles and providing parity. Rewards are equal to your contribution, your data is reflected back on you to help you save a fortune, a platform for collective action is established which lets us take down the giants that profits from our choices and behaviours.
This is David against Goliath, but by collectively organising our behaviour we are able to take down the beast. Instead of increasing coca colas profits we can create new consumer brands we own. Imagine the power and influence of 100,000 people demanding their supermarket stock a product they own. Imagine that same conversation if its 1,000,000 or 10,000,000 people. We control our fate and to become free we must control our wealth.
The government restricts who can own what. The richest 1% get richer every day while the wealth gap widens. You are legally oppressed. Don’t have £250,000 in the bank? You can’t invest in the most economically beneficial asset classes. Under the guise of protecting the consumer, the wealthy are given the keys to monopoly. Picking your punk blows that shit up. We are democratising wealth on a global scale. Want to own part of the next Facebook and Uber? You get that chance simply by having an account.
Everything you need, more than you’d ever expect — that is our proposition. We commoditise collaboration and community. We provide ownership in a world which increasingly trends towards exploitation.
